In addition to a triumphant Easter service each year and a Christmas Eve service based on the tradition of Lessons and Carols, worship at New Covenant is enhanced through special services held throughout the year. Some of these services from previous years include a Palm Sunday service with scripture, music, and dramatic reading; a service based on the Lord’s Prayer, including expressions of this well-known text in music as well as recitations in German, French, and a Native American prayer; and a celebration of All Saints Day with special music, readings, and spoken remembrances of those who have passed away in the previous year. We have worshiped through African-American spirituals, learning the history of this powerful tradition, and also a service highlighting texts, musical settings, and history of hymns and gospel songs that have been part of worship in Christian churches for hundreds of years.
